Movies of 2015

Darth-Vader-Death-Star

by Luca Benni & Matteo Cesarini (Cinema Metropolis Umbertide)

It all starts on 12th February, with one of the year’s most anticipated, (especially by the ladies!), films, ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’.

The film is an adaptation of the 2011 novel written by EL James, also the film’s producer, which became a best-selling, global phenomenon. Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson play the lead roles of Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele.

2015 will also be a year for the return of some of the best loved franchises. Steven Spielberg will be the executive producer for ‘Jurassic World’, a new chapter in the dinosaur saga. Colin Trevorrow will direct the epic action adventure from a screenplay co-written with Derek Connolly, which will be shot in 3D and released on 11th June. With ‘Terminator Genisys’, distributed in Italian cinemas on 9th July, Arnold Schwarzenegger returns as Terminator model T-800. The fifth installment of the series, the film will be the first of a new trilogy.

The plot centres on a Terminator sent back in time to protect Sarah Connor before the events of 1984. ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ is the new film based on Marvel Comics superhero team the Avengers, written and directed by Joss Whedon. It’s the eleventh film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the sequel to ‘The Avengers’. The release date of the film is scheduled for 1st May in the US and 22nd April in Italy.

Between ‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2’, (the second part of the final chapter of the saga starring Jennifer Lawrence), and the new James Bond entitled ‘Spectre’, (with Monica Bellucci, released 6th November), we get to the really important stuff!

‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens, from Lucasfilm and Walt Disney Pictures, is the seventh film in the Star Wars saga and the first episode of a new trilogy set thirty years after the events of ‘Return of the Jedi’. The film stars a new trio of heroes along with many familiar faces from the original series. The film is expected in American theatres on 18th December, but the decision to postpone the Italian release until 5th January 2016 has unleashed the wrath of fans.
